Team Global:  Leading Beyond Boundaries

On April 2, 2023, a global call for collaboration was issued to recognize and elevate the vital contributions of nonprofit organizations, NGOs, PBOs, voluntary action groups, and registered charities worldwide in addressing some of the most complex, “wicked” problems facing our world today. This initiative sparked immediate interest, resulting in 15 fully committed nonprofit and public sector professionals developing an impactful collaborative project over the course of five months.

On August 15, 2023, this global team proudly presented “Beyond Boundaries: Recognizing and Celebrating the Impact of the Global Nonprofit Sector” at the International Leadership Association’s Public Leadership Member Community Session. Fifteen practitioners and scholars from six countries shared insights that highlighted the extraordinary role of the global nonprofit sector in driving social change, addressing pressing global challenges, and promoting sustainable development. Since then, we have referred to ourselves as Team Global.

Our work has continued to grow. In September 2023, we embarked on a collaborative book project that focused on the transformative power of the global nonprofit sector. We also presented follow-up virtual sessions and engaged in dynamic panel discussions at major conferences, including the 2024 International Leadership Association Global Conference in Chicago. Our discussions center on transformative leadership grounded in the African philosophy of Ubuntu — “I am because we are and because we are, I am” — which inspires our cross-sector approach to collaboration, system transformation, and community impact.
